Beaker (The Muppets)

Who is Beaker?

Beaker is a beloved character from The Muppets, known for his high-pitched squeaks and nervous demeanor. He serves as the assistant to the eccentric scientist Dr. Bunsen Honeydew at Muppet Labs.

Beaker’s role often involves him being subjected to Bunsen’s hazardous inventions, leading to frequent mishaps and comic misfortune. Despite his many accidents, Beaker is always endearing, and his expressive reactions, usually limited to “meep-meep-meep!” noises, have made him a fan favorite.

Beaker made his first appearance in the 1977 season of The Muppet Show, and he has since appeared in various Muppet movies, TV specials, and other projects. His character is memorable for his wild orange hair, wide eyes, and long face, which often convey his distress during Dr. Honeydew’s experiments.

Beaker has been voiced by several talented performers over the years:

  • Richard Hunt originally voiced Beaker from the character’s debut in the late 1970s until Hunt’s passing in 1992.
  • Steve Whitmire took over the role from 1992 to 2016, continuing to bring Beaker’s quirky personality to life.
  • David Rudman has voiced Beaker since 2017, maintaining the character’s signature vocal style and physical mannerisms.
