Timon is the sharp-witted meerkat who taught the world that “Hakuna Matata” isn’t just a phrase—it’s a lifestyle. Since his 1994 debut, Timon has evolved from Simba’s comedic guardian into a global icon of friendship and bug-eating gourmet cuisine.
Timon’s Role in “Mufasa: The Lion King” (2026)
Following the theatrical success of Mufasa: The Lion King, Timon remains at the center of the franchise’s new “Live-Action” universe. Billy Eichner reprises his role as the wisecracking meerkat, serving as the modern-day narrator alongside Pumbaa (Seth Rogen). In the 2026 home release and Disney+ debut, fans can see extended scenes of Timon babysitting Kiara (Simba’s daughter) while Rafiki tells the legend of Mufasa’s rise to power. This film bridges the gap between the 2019 remake and the potential for a new Simba’s Pride adaptation.
Animal Kingdom Character Update: February 2026
If you are planning to visit Walt Disney World this month, take note of a major change in the Pride Lands! February 23, 2026, is currently slated as the final day for the Timon and Rafiki meet-and-greet at Conservation Station (Rafiki’s Planet Watch). As the park prepares for new 2026/2027 expansions, Timon is expected to move to a new “roving” greeting schedule near Discovery Island. Always check the My Disney Experience app for the most current times before taking the Wildlife Express Train.
“Timon’s Luau” & New Anniversary Treats
The celebration of The Lion King’s legacy continues at Disney’s Animal Kingdom with exclusive 2026 snacks. The fan-favorite Timon’s Luau is a must-try at the Isle of Java, featuring vanilla chiffon, passion fruit curd, guava jam, and an edible tropical flower lei. It is the perfect companion to the Pumbaa Premium Popcorn Bucket, which remains a top-seller in the park this season.
The Future: A Timon & Pumbaa Spinoff?
Rumors are swirling in early 2026 that Disney is considering a standalone “Live-Action” style series for Disney+ focused entirely on the duo’s adventures before meeting Simba. While not officially confirmed, the chemistry between Eichner and Rogen has sparked internal discussions for a series that would echo the spirit of the classic 90s Timon & Pumbaa animated show.
