Who is Kanga?

Kanga is a warm-hearted and nurturing character from A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh stories.

As the mother of Roo, she is often portrayed as the caring figure in the Hundred Acre Wood, looking out for her energetic young son and offering gentle advice to their friends. Kanga is known for her gentle, motherly demeanor, always being a source of calm and wisdom among the sometimes chaotic residents of the forest. She often appears alongside her son, Roo, whom she lovingly watches over, making sure he stays safe during his many playful adventures with their friends like Tigger, Pooh, and Piglet.

Kanga has been voiced by several talented actresses over the years. In Disney’s early Winnie the Pooh productions, actress Barbara Luddy voiced her in Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966), Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968), and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too (1974). Subsequently, other actresses took on the role, including Julie McWhirter in the late 1970s and Patricia Parris in the 1980s. More recently, Kath Soucie voiced Kanga in The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1988-1991) and many later productions, embodying the character’s sweet, supportive nature in both classic and new adaptations of the beloved Winnie the Pooh series.
