The nomination, made by Disney’s Board of Directors, would increase the size of the board from 10 to 11 members if Williams is elected by shareholders.

Williams, who retired earlier in 2025 after a 27-year career at Apple Inc., served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer from 2015 until stepping down this year. During his tenure at Apple, he oversaw global supply chain operations, service and support functions, and the company’s acclaimed design team. He played a central role in the launch of iconic products including the Apple Watch and was instrumental in shaping Apple’s strategy in health and fitness technologies.

James P. Gorman, Chairman of the Disney Board, described Williams as “a highly accomplished executive” whose leadership at one of the world’s most admired technology firms will provide valuable insight as Disney continues to integrate creative storytelling with breakthrough technology. Williams echoed this sentiment, expressing admiration for Disney’s legacy and stating that he looks forward to contributing to the company’s “ongoing journey of creativity and excellence.”

The nomination comes amid a broader industry trend of media and entertainment firms incorporating deep technology expertise into their governance structures. If elected, Williams would join a board that includes executives and leaders from diverse sectors, offering strategic guidance as Disney navigates a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
