Who is the Mad Hatter?

The Mad Hatter is a fictional character from the Disney animated film “Alice in Wonderland.” He is based on the character of the same name from the novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll.

He is a character who is known for his eccentricity, his love for tea and his peculiar hat. He is voiced by actor Ed Wynn in the original 1951 film and by actor Jeff Bennett in later adaptations. He is also known for being one of the main characters of the story, who helps Alice navigate the strange and fantastical world of Wonderland, as well as for his role in the famous “Unbirthday” party scene. He is considered to be one of the most iconic and recognizable Disney characters, and has also appeared in other Disney media such as the Kingdom Hearts video game series and Disney Parks.

    • For 50 years, one stretch of Bay Lake shoreline has had one of the strangest histories anywhere at Walt Disney World. It began in 1976 as River Country, Disney World’s first water park and a rustic swimming hole filled with slides, beaches, rockwork, and filtered Bay Lake water. After closing in 2001, Disney did something unusual: it left much of the park standing, allowing nature to slowly reclaim the abandoned attractions. Nearly two decades later, Disney finally demolished River Country to build Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge. Construction began, the old water park disappeared, and then the pandemic brought the project to a sudden halt. For years, the site sat behind construction walls as another unfinished chapter in the property’s history. Now Disney is trying again. Disney Lakeshore Lodge is scheduled to open in 2027 with nearly 1,000 rooms, Disney Vacation Club villas, waterfront Lake Houses, restaurants, pools, and even a lazy river — bringing water attractions back to the former River Country shoreline more than 25 years after the original park closed.
