walt disney carousel of progressDisney just dropped a major Magic Kingdom update: Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is getting a refresh that will introduce a brand-new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics figure-plus a new opening scene that sets the stage before the classic four-generation family story begins.

Announced live at Destination D23 during the “Creating the Happiest Place on Earth” panel, Imagineer Chris Beatty confirmed the addition and emphasized that the heart of the show will remain intact while it’s readied for a new generation.

Disney has not shared a debut timeframe yet, but the company notes that more details are on the way. The move underscores how closely the attraction is tied to Walt’s legacy: Carousel of Progress was conceived by Walt for the 1964 New York World’s Fair, later moving to Magic Kingdom in 1975, and is often cited as having logged more performances than any other stage show in American theater history.
