Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin set to reopen April 8, 2026 at Magic Kingdom

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is officially set to reopen at Magic Kingdom on April 8, 2026, giving Tomorrowland one of its most recognizable attractions back after a lengthy refurbishment.
Disney is not simply bringing the ride back online in its previous form. The company has been positioning this as an upgraded version of the interactive attraction, with several changes aimed at modernizing gameplay and making the experience easier to follow, especially for younger riders and first-time guests. On the official Walt Disney World page, Disney says the attraction will reopen “with new enhancements,” while Disney Parks Blog has outlined a more substantial refresh that touches both the ride vehicles and the target-shooting mechanics.
Among the biggest changes are new handheld blasters, replacing the older mounted design that limited movement and often made aiming more frustrating than fun. Disney says the updated blasters will feature an always-on laser to help guests track where they are aiming, along with added lighting, sound, and vibration effects. That should make the ride’s central game element feel much clearer and more responsive than before, particularly on a ride where accuracy has long been part of the challenge.

The ride vehicles are also getting an update. Disney has said the refreshed star cruisers will carry a new look inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command, and each vehicle will include video monitors showing real-time scoring and other features. For a ride built around competitive gameplay, that is a notable upgrade and one that brings the attraction more in line with modern interactive dark rides.
Disney has also previewed additional interactive targets that will react and light up when hit, a change that should make gameplay feel more immediate inside the attraction’s dark environments. Another new addition is Buddy, a support bot who will appear in a new show scene and help train guests before they head out to stop Zurg. That added scene gives Disney a chance to refresh the ride’s story presentation without losing the familiar mission that has defined Space Ranger Spin for years.
The April 8 reopening matters beyond the attraction itself because Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin remains one of Tomorrowland’s core family rides. With no height requirement, it serves a wide audience and has long been a reliable option for groups with younger children. Bringing it back online ahead of the busy spring and summer travel season gives Magic Kingdom another high-capacity, all-ages attraction at a key time on the calendar.
Walt Disney World has already been using the reopening in its broader seasonal marketing, including spring and summer promotional pages that highlight the refreshed attraction as part of what is new around the resort in 2026. That suggests Disney sees the updated Space Ranger Spin as more than a routine refurbishment project. It is part of a wider effort to keep classic Magic Kingdom attractions feeling current while preserving the experiences guests already know.
For longtime fans, the reopening will likely be a mix of nostalgia and curiosity. Space Ranger Spin has been a Tomorrowland staple since the late 1990s, but even its most devoted riders would probably admit it was due for a technical refresh. If Disney’s announced upgrades translate well in person, April 8 could mark not just the return of a favorite, but a more polished version of a ride that still plays an important role in Magic Kingdom’s attraction lineup.
