Simba is the definitive hero of Disney’s The Lion King franchise. From his beginnings as a “just can’t wait” cub to his reign as the King of Pride Rock, Simba’s journey through the Circle of Life remains Disney’s most powerful tale of responsibility and redemption.
Simba Returns in “Mufasa: The Lion King” (2026)
Following its successful theatrical run, Mufasa: The Lion King makes its streaming debut on Disney+ on March 26, 2026. While the film is a prequel focusing on Mufasa and Taka (Scar), it also serves as a sequel set in the present day. Donald Glover returns as King Simba, who, along with Nala (Beyoncé), introduces their daughter Kiara to the family legacy. This film marks the first big-screen appearance of Kiara, bridging the gap between the 2019 remake and the beloved 1998 animated sequel.
Celebrating 30 Years at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
The 30th Anniversary celebration of the 1994 classic continues through 2026 at Walt Disney World. Guests can experience:
- Festival of the Lion King: This Broadway-style spectacular in Harambe Theater remains the #1 rated show in the park. In 2026, the show features new MagicBand+ integration where your band vibrates and glows during the “Circle of Life” finale.
- The Animation Experience: Visit Conservation Station to learn from real Disney animators how to draw Simba, Zazu, or Scar.
- Themed Treats: Don’t miss the Simba Paw Cookie or the Simba Mango Slushy at Eight Spoon Café, available exclusively during this anniversary window.
“Celebration in the Sky” (New for 2026)
Starting March 10, 2026, the new Disney Adventure cruise ship will debut “The Lion King: Celebration in the Sky.” This is the first ever full-scale fireworks and pyrotechnic show at sea dedicated entirely to Simba’s story, featuring new orchestral arrangements of “He Lives in You.”
Simba on Stage and Screen
- Broadway: The Lion King at the Minskoff Theatre remains a must-see, recently welcoming Vincent Jamal Hooper as the new Broadway Simba.
- Voices: Simba’s legacy is preserved by the iconic voices of Matthew Broderick and Jonathan Taylor Thomas (1994), and Donald Glover (2019/2024).
