While we have known it was coming for a bit of time now, yesterday Disney’s game/virtual world Club Penguin officially closed down. The game, which allowed users to create penguin avatars and participate in games and activities in the online world, first launched in 2005. During its time, it amassed some pretty amazing stats including collecting over 200 million registered user accounts.
Club Penguin was not launched by Disney originally, but its parent company, New Horizon Interactive was purchased by Disney in 2007.
Although we’ve said goodbye to Club Penguin, all is not lost, it has already been announced that a replacement mobile-only game titled Club Penguin Island will be available later on this year.
