Who is Dang Hu?

Dang Hu is a character from the 2021 animated Disney film “Raya and the Last Dragon,” serving as a minor antagonist in the story. She holds the position of chieftess of Talon, a floating city in Kumandra that has prospered as the antagonistic force known as the Druun is unable to reach the city due to their fear of water.

Initially, Dang Hu presents herself as a harmless elderly woman, but as the narrative unfolds, her sinister and cunning nature comes to light. She utilizes the fear of the Druun to her advantage, employing it to assert her authority over her enemies and lock intruders out. In a particular scene, Dang Hu deceives Sisu, the dragon, and nearly causes her demise, but Raya intervenes and saves the day. Despite not playing a significant role in the film, Dang Hu causes trouble for the main characters, demonstrating her antagonistic tendencies within the narrative. Additionally, it’s revealed that Dang Hu is the mother of the previous Chief of Talon, Dang Hai.

Through Dang Hu’s character, the movie explores themes of deception, moral ambiguity, and the varying leadership styles and moral codes among the different tribes of Kumandra.
