Who is Kermit the Frog?
Kermit the Frog is one of the most iconic characters from The Muppets, created by puppeteer Jim Henson in 1955.
Known for his gentle, relatable personality, Kermit quickly became a beloved figure, often acting as the “everyman” character amidst the chaos of his fellow Muppets. He serves as the unofficial leader of the Muppet troupe, trying to keep the group together through the unpredictable mishaps and hilarity they inevitably encounter. One of his defining characteristics is his earnestness and sensitivity, balanced with a good dose of resilience. His catchphrase, “It’s not easy being green,” has become a cultural symbol of embracing one’s uniqueness and individuality.
Jim Henson originally brought Kermit to life with his puppetry and voice, portraying him until his passing in 1990. Following Henson, Steve Whitmire took on the role for over two decades, from 1990 to 2016, continuing to develop Kermit’s character with Henson’s spirit. In 2017, Matt Vogel assumed the role and has continued to bring Kermit’s charm to new audiences.
