Who is Dr. Alex Durant?
Dr. Alex Durant is a character in the 1979 Disney science fiction film “The Black Hole.” He is portrayed by actor Anthony Perkins. Dr. Durant is the chief scientist aboard the spacecraft USS Palomino, which encounters a mysterious black hole while on a mission to explore deep space. He is a brilliant, but skeptical scientist who initially dismisses the existence of the black hole and the strange phenomena surrounding it. However, as the ship and its crew are pulled closer to the black hole, he becomes more and more convinced of its reality and begins to question the true nature of the black hole and the motivations of the ship’s captain, who is obsessed with reaching the event horizon. Dr. Durant plays a key role in the film’s plot, as he tries to unravel the mysteries of the black hole and ultimately must make a difficult decision regarding the fate of the ship and its crew.
