The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management) | Disney World

The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management) was Disney’s ill-fated attempt at adding a Disney character overlay to their iconic audio-animatronic show. The rebooted show featured Iago from Aladdin and Zazu from The Lion King. The two new animatronics were integrated into the show along with a new storyline and songs.

The New Management overlay was not received well by Disney World guests but the show did have a decent run, lasting from 1998-2011. In 2011, the Tiki room had a small fire, and when it reopened, the show had reverted back to most of the original storyline and music.

• “The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management)” was a revision of the original “Enchanted Tiki Room” show at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. It opened in 1998 and featured the popular characters Iago from “Aladdin” and Zazu from “The Lion King.”
• The show’s overhaul was part of Disney’s attempt to modernize its classic attractions by incorporating characters from contemporary Disney films to appeal to younger audiences.
• Unlike the original show, this version had a more irreverent tone, with Iago and Zazu providing comedic commentary and modern pop culture references throughout.
• In January 2011, the attraction suffered a small fire, which led to significant damage to the Iago animatronic. This incident eventually led to the closure and overhaul of the attraction.
• “The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management)” was replaced in August 2011 by “Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room,” a show that returned to the roots of the original attraction, focusing on classic elements and traditional songs.
